The One Mistake You Should Avoid After Shaving

It happens to the best of us. We grew up seeing our dad do it. We even tried it as a kid. It’s basically a passage to manhood. Yes, shaving. But what I’m talking about is what you do after the shave: apply the dreaded aftershave!

Our shaving regimen has always consisted of applying shaving cream on our face, shaving and finishing the shave with alcohol-based aftershave. And that is where the problem lies. That stinging sensation you feel when you apply the aftershave is the alcohol in the aftershave. It helps with closing your pores and prevent infections from any cuts.

THE PROBLEM: What you don’t know is that alcohol-based aftershave is drying the heck out of your skin! Think about it… If you apply that stuff everyday or every other day, your skin dries up and it almost hurts when you smile because of how dry your skin has become.

THE SOLUTION: Today we have so many other options that our dads and granpas didn’t have. We’re talking about your money-maker here, so I recommend you go with something less harsh on the face and more soothing, like a post-shaving balm.

Using shaving balm after a shave helps to soothe and moisturize your skin. Try to stay away from balms that also have fragrance. I know we’ve come to enjoy that aftershave smell, but that stuff also dries you out.

STUCK ON USING AFTERSHAVE: If you get several cuts after each shave then go ahead and apply aftershave BUT don’t drown your face in it. Pour a couple drops of aftershave on a cotton ball and lightly dab your face with it. Let it dry completely and then apply the post-shaving balm.

Voilà! You’ll soon notice how soft your skin feels and looks. Plus, your face will thank you as you get older.

Here are my top 3 post-shave balms for every budget.
